Garlic Powder

GARLIC

Garlic’s distinctive pungency is as potent as its history is deep—so deep, in fact, that it’s not clear exactly where the herb was first discovered. We do know it is among the oldest known cultivated plants, grown in Mesopotamia in 3,000 BC.

Garlic bulbs were placed in King Tutankhamen’s tomb and even fed to the Egyptian laborers who constructed the pyramids. Roman workers regularly ate garlic, but those in the upper class considered the practice a sign of vulgarity.

Nicknamed the “stinking rose,” garlic’s culinary use is both revered and reviled. But as evidenced by this quote from 1920’s “The Cook’s Decameron” cookbook, “Garlic used as it should be used is the soul, the divine essence, of cookery.”

Garlic complements almost any savory dish you can imagine. To provide the best flavor, Spice Islands garlic is harvested throughout the world.

MINCED

Add garlic texture and flavor to soups, casseroles, marinades and more. Use 1/4 tsp. minced garlic for each garlic clove, or if cooking with little or no liquid, soak in cool water for 30 minutes prior to use.

POWDER

To provide top-quality garlic powder, Spice Islands undertakes garlic powder through a unique process giving it the same flavor notes as fresh garlic. In comparison to general retail, Spice Islands provides garlic powder where other retailers substitute granulated garlic labeled as garlic powder.

This very fine powder disperses easily in liquids and works well in sauces; 1/4 tsp. equals one fresh clove.

GARLIC PEPPER

The art of spice blend crafting shines in this lively combination. Aromatic garlic, grown under the warm sun, melds with pepper, long hailed the “King of Spices,” for heat and pungency with every shake.

While this one-two punch is enough for many retail blends, Spice Islands garlic pepper includes a blend of other spices that add balance and depth.

Naturally, garlic pepper can be added to any dish in which you’d use either spice on its own. Or, give dinner guests a flavorful alternative by replacing ordinary black pepper with garlic pepper at the table.

Here’s yet another reason to use this blend while entertaining: Hot spices like pepper stimulate the release of endorphins that contribute to an overall feeling of well-being.

GARLIC SALT

Salt is the ultimate ambassador of seasonings, a gracious host who welcomes flavorings such as garlic, onion and celery to create delicious seasoned salts with worldwide appeal.

Spice Islands carefully combines premium garlic with salt to create this kitchen staple.

With two of the most popular seasonings in one convenient blend, sprinkling it on classic foods such as buttery garlic toast is only the beginning. Spice Islands garlic salt enhances most savory dishes, and is equally at home on the table as it is on the cooktop.
