Go Crazy with Snacks, Treats for College Basketball's Big Moment

For college basketball fans, March is the time to go crazy, as the nation's best teams vie for the national title. This is prime time for gathering friends and family, but remember the big spring tournament is a marathon that lasts for weeks. You'll want to fuel your body accordingly.

Early Round Meals

The early rounds offer multiple games that true fans won't want to miss. Prepare hearty grub to keep distracting hunger at bay, but don't forget to include a few healthier options.

Consider a slow cooker meal that offers filling protein and healthy vegetables that can start cooking in the morning, well before tip-off begins, like this Slow Cooker Beef Stew or Slow Cooker Italian Chicken Stew. They can be easily scaled to feed a party, and kept warm for hours.

Snacks for the Final Four

When the competition gets whittled down to the last four teams vying to get to the final game, no one wants to have to risk dropping a bowl of chili when jumping up to cheer on their team. Think finger foods that are easy to eat, put down and clean up. Bowls of Nuts and Bolts or chili popcorn offer easy snack food throughout the day. Hand held treats like Chili Marinated Shrimp or Empanadas are easy to toss on the table for nibbles during commercial breaks.

Championship Treats

The big dance is almost done, and only two behemoths of the boards remain. The game may feel like a sprint compared to the other rounds, but every minute carries the potential of history in the making.

It's time to pull out winning recipes, such as Buffalo Wings, Chicken Meatball Sliders with Pesto Spread and French fries with Louisiana Style Cajun Seasoning. If your team is in the hot seat, consider emotional food — Onion Dip with Greek Yogurt to help mask a loss (no, those aren't sad tears, those are tears from chopping onions). Finish with Monster Cookies for a monster win.
