Turn Any Day Around with Classic Comfort Food Upgrades

When the dog bites, when the bee stings . . . when it's cold outside and life feels hard, we head straight to the kitchen to whip up a few of our favorite things. There's nothing in the world like comfort food to make everything feel right again.

We all have our favorites: Think mashed potatoes, stacks of buttery pancakes, and melty mac and cheese. Even the most retro and soul-soothing of dishes can be dressed up with Spice Islands® spices and made good enough for company. Add some authentic international flavors to all things creamy, warm, and cozy, and you'll turn that bad day around in no time.

Pancakes and Cinnamon Rolls

Many a childhood memory is made waking up to the scent of pancakes on the griddle or cinnamon rolls in the oven. Make someone's morning with warm and sticky caramel pecan cinnamon rolls or sweet and pillowy spiced banana nut pancakes.

Mashed Potatoes

Perhaps the definition of comfort food, mashed potatoes are as soft and soothing as a hug. We're pretty sure classic, buttery smashed potatoes with a pinch of white pepper will become your new standard bearer, but just to be sure, you might want to test out the calming properties of tarragon smashed potatoes and herb whipped potatoes, too. Whatever you do, don't forget the gravy!

Mac and Cheese

We're not talking the fluorescent orange, boxed stuff of childhood. For maximum comfort, the only way to go is a truly sublime gratin of al dente pasta baked under a blanket of velvety cheese. Try smokey macaroni and three cheeses or variations including chipotle, Cajun flavors, or broccoli and redefine the category.

Grilled Cheese

Up your grilled cheese sandwich game with a sprinkle of chimichurri seasoning, herby sautéed mushrooms, or some silky and sweet caramelized onions. A mug of fragrant tomato soup alongside is a must.
