A delicate powder, a delightful kick.

Ground Mustard
(brassica hirta/brassica juncea)
Mustard, Ground

In its raw form, mustard is somewhat tame. It takes water or another nonacidic liquid to activate myrosinase, the enzyme responsible for that classic hot mustard taste.

We source our Spice Islands® ground mustard from the far reaches of Western Canada, combining yellow and oriental mustard seeds for superior flavor. The seeds are ground into a very fine powder, allowing it to disperse easily into foods.

Ground mustard is ideal for making prepared mustards or adding flavor to oil and vinegar dressings.

Fun Fact: In 334 BC, Alexander the Great received a bag of sesame seeds from Darius III of Persia, symbolizing the vast Persian army. Alexander answered with a bag of mustard seeds to signify the number and power of his men.

Our Ground Mustard is only mustard. Spice Islands® spices and herbs don’t contain added sugar, fillers or other ingredients so you get the most authentic flavor every time.
