Traditional Apple Cider

2 broken Spice Islands® Cinnamon Sticks

1-1/2 teaspoons Spice Islands® Whole Allspice

1/2 teaspoon Spice Islands® Whole Cloves

2 quarts apple cider or juice

1/4 cup sugar

Bourbon, as desired (optional)


Place cinnamon, allspice and cloves in a small piece of cheesecloth. Heat cider and sugar in a large saucepan with spices over medium-high heat to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes, covered. Remove and discard spice bag before serving.

To serve, pour desired amount of bourbon (if desired) in each glass and fill with warm cider. 

Recipe note: Cider can be simmered in a slow cooker.
