Sweet and fruity with a slightly hot bite, ancho is the perfect chile for adding a kick to your meal. But just a little one.

On the Scoville scale, used to compare the hotness of chiles, ancho chiles range from 1,000–5,000 heat units. While habanero peppers, for instance, can be as high as 250,000 heat units.

Fun Fact: Ancho chiles are 1,000 to 2,000 times hotter than a bell pepper. But a hundred times milder than a habanero.
