Spicy Golden Chutney

Difficulty

  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Total Time: 2 hours 15 minutes

Makes 7 cups

Ingredients

4 medium Braeburn apples, peeled and chopped

1 medium mango, peeled and cubed

1/3 cup chopped red bell pepper

1 cup chopped onion

1 cup golden raisins

1/2 cup candied pineapple OR dried fruit

1 medium fresh lime, zest and juice

1 cup orange juice

1-1/4 cups cider vinegar

2 cups white sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

2 teaspoons Spice Islands® Whole Mustard Seed

2 teaspoons Spice Islands® Ground Saigon Cinnamon

2 teaspoons Spice Islands® Crystallized Ginger

1 teaspoon Spice Islands® Minced Garlic

1 teaspoon Spice Islands® Ground Ginger

1 teaspoon Spice Islands® Ground Coriander

1 teaspoon Spice Islands® Crushed Red Pepper

3/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon Spice Islands® Turmeric

Instructions

Combine all ingredients in a heavy large saucepan or Dutch oven. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered for 1-1/2 to 2 hours, until fruit becomes transparent and mixture is thickened. Stir occasionally.

Serve with grilled or roast chicken, turkey, pork or seafood.  Delicious as a sandwich spread, added to salads or as an appetizer.

Recipe Note:  For a smoother chutney, transfer (in batches) to food processor or blender and pulse to desired consistency.
